How I started my 1st Youtube Channel
===
[00:00:00] Nowadays, I don't think you can start a therapy business without getting on camera in some form or fashion. If you're looking to start your business, one of the Best ways, I think to start marketing and attracting potential customers, clients, patients to you, but also letting referral sources like doctors know who you are and what you do and how you can help their patients is to get on camera.
[00:00:35] My name is Hoang. I'm an occupational therapist and certified hand therapist, and I'm just going to share with you a little bit about how I started my first YouTube channel. I want to say about eight years ago, if not more. And since then I started a second channel and this is the one you're watching right now, hand therapy secrets.
[00:00:53] So the first channel I ever started was for actually for my clinics called hands on therapy services. I [00:01:00] have a channel and I'm actually starting now to upload more videos on there. But I digress. So here's how I started my first YouTube channel. I actually started getting coached. Like I went into a coaching program and here I am.
[00:01:18] My first two years in business, I'm like knocking on doctor's doors. Cause I don't know about you, but that's what they told me to do. And I listened to them until one day I got tired of knocking on doctor's doors and not getting in, not talking to people, just being put on hold, not getting referrals from them, all sorts of stuff.
[00:01:38] It's great to build relationships, but it cannot be the Only thing that you do in terms of marketing. So I was trying to get on camera and I was like trying to take pictures of me doing stuff. And every day I'd be like, oh my God, no, I'm too fat for this. My skin is too oily. My hair is not right.
[00:01:59] I [00:02:00] don't have makeup on, every excuse in the book. I had them and I know that you have them too because when I talk to people who want to get started, who want to start their own business, who want to start doing social media stuff, they're like it's easy for you to do, but it's hard for me, girl, when I started, it was hard for me too.
[00:02:22] And you just have to make the commitment to do it. But here's how I literally had to get over my fear of getting on camera. And not just taking pictures because with pictures you can pose. Okay, take a picture of me now. All right, let me fix my hair. Okay, now take a picture of me. So you can pose and all that but I wanted to get on camera because I wanted to explain what I did I wanted to explain and get the attention of my potential Clients my potential patients better without having to [00:03:00] always, market to doctors directly And I knew because I was seeing it everywhere that people were getting on camera and people were going on YouTube and just You know, growing businesses, getting paid from YouTube.
[00:03:16] And I said, I need to do this. And so I said, okay, I'm going to start going on camera three times a week. Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I don't know why I was thinking that that's for a whole nother thing. When you're a business owner, you're, you can work literally seven days a week.
[00:03:33] Like you're not limited to Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, but somehow or another, I was like, okay, I'm gonna go on camera Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, but what really got me, cause my business coach was like, what are you doing? Just fucking go every day. I was like, what? Yeah. He's you need to go every day, get on camera every day for 30 days.
[00:03:54] And that's what I did. I got a camera. Oh my god, please don't go back and look through those [00:04:00] videos But they're there if you want to see them I literally just got on. It was facebook live back then But I would just start the camera and I would just roll. I made so many mistakes I would just delete the videos and then I was editing the videos myself, but I would just get on camera.
[00:04:18] I had to do something every day. And really, if you look at any habit business habit books or building a new skill or a new habit, they tell you, you need to do something every day straight for 21 days before you can really build in that skill or build in that habit. And that's exactly what I did.
[00:04:40] I just, I made sure I went on camera. Every day for 30 days. I went live so it wasn't scripted Every single day and I started my YouTube channel that way I were just posting them if I went live on Facebook I would download and upload onto [00:05:00] YouTube. That's it. That's how it went and That's how I started my first YouTube channel.
[00:05:04] I got on camera And it took me a while to get really comfortable. Now I'm like, whatever, but I've been doing it for a little bit. So if you see it looking easy for me, I promise you it wasn't always that way. Now I'm getting better, but I'm always looking to get better with what I speak about, how I speak.
[00:05:28] Someone's always going to have something to say, but as long as you make that commitment, if you want to. If you are, I think now this is 2023, we're about to move into 2024 in this day and age, if you are not somehow on social media, somehow, some fashion, it is really hard to grow your business. And I think that as therapists.
[00:05:56] When you're looking to grow in your, area [00:06:00] first, one of the best and fastest way to build trust is to get on camera and share with people what you know, how you speak, your perspective. I don't treat like every other occupational therapist and hand therapist in my area. I actually believe in certain things so strongly that I say it all the time.
[00:06:22] I have opinions on what happens with the Tino license. I have an opinion on what kind of splints needs to be made. I have an opinion on when you can avoid surgery and then how you can avoid surgery. And I have a very particular way of treating. So I want to share that part with potential people who want to work with me.
[00:06:48] And as a business, you can do that too. And it's also one of the most inexpensive ways it's organic reach. So if you're just starting out and you don't have [00:07:00] a big budget to just run ads and not know for sure if your ads work, one of the best ways to do it is to start a YouTube channel and start somewhere, start talking, right?
[00:07:12] The other thing is... That helped me to get my YouTube going was you know, I'm a big fan of Instagram And so hopefully you follow me here and subscribe to my channel here at hands on Here I'm gonna say it wrong at therapy secrets. You can click the subscribe button. You can also follow me on Instagram So I do a lot on Instagram And I really loved when Instagram was doing when they started doing stories and back then they were doing 15 second stories and I was just doing a bunch of them because I was only 15 seconds, and I figured if I messed up, I could just delete the video because nobody was watching me.
[00:07:58] So I started there. You don't have [00:08:00] to do anything really big. I used to do I don't know, I would just share one thing that I knew I'd be like, Oh, use. This is how I use paraffin. This is how I stretch a finger if you have trigger point, trigger finger or something like that.
[00:08:17] It would just be like the most simple things, but you can share one thing and then share one more thing. So my challenge to you is to get on camera for 30 days, every single day and share something, share something, you don't want to start your YouTube channel. Maybe you want to get on Instagram.
[00:08:37] Maybe you want to get on Facebook, depending on where you're. Potential customers are your patients are maybe you can get on tick tock and share one thing and those videos can be one minute long because there's so little commitment from those videos and you share one thing I would just I used to share.
[00:08:57] I still share. I share what I'm eating. I share [00:09:00] what I'm cooking. I just share drinking wine and I still do, but that's what got me over the hump. So I hope that helps you too. Thank you. Consider for a moment getting on camera and sharing your perspective, sharing what you do, sharing what you know as an occupational therapist.
[00:09:20] I think that more people need to know what we do and beyond, Oh, this is what occupational therapy is. I want you to share like what you actually do with the patient. I used to share wound care stuff. I used to share splinting stuff. And I still do. I'm trying to, I'm always working through what kind of things to share.
[00:09:38] So if you have any comments below what I should, what's my next topic, then leave me a comment below and let me know. What do you want me to talk about? Maybe that's all you do too. So I hope you get started getting on camera, getting more comfortable showing, showing up for the people who are going to really need your [00:10:00] help as an occupational therapist.
[00:10:01] All right. That's how I built both of my YouTube channels. That's how I built both of my businesses, just sharing my perspective, telling more people about what I do. And if they like me, they'll come into my world. And if they don't like me, they'll keep. Scrolling past. All right. Again, my name is Hoang Tran.
[00:10:21] I'm an occupational therapist and certified hand therapist. And I hope that I can share a little bit of my business story so you can get started with your business story soon. I'll talk to you soon. Thanks. Bye.
