Study Elbow Injuries for the CHT Exam, Even if you Don't Love It
===
[00:00:00] You think about elbows, just like when you can think about this for all of your sections, right? You can divide into, you know, like surgical, non surgical, like when you, you know, break it up, you can break it up in so many ways and it just allows you to be mentally flexible as you have your non surgical cases and then you have your surgical cases.
Under non surgical, you can list out here your tennis elbow, your golfer's elbow, your sprain, strains, you know, that are essentially can become dislocations. You have a conservative side and you have a conservative side. you know, a, uh, a surgery side [00:01:00] depending, right? You can have, then it's like the dislocation, you have the ligament tears, right?
And it could be conservative or surgical, you know? Um, so you can list out like all sorts of, you know, all sorts of things. Um, and there's certain ones that, um, You're always going to have surgery, right? So it's your biceps, distal, biceps, triceps. All right, this is distal. And then you have your fractures.
So then you can label out all your fractures. You have your dislocations. You can label out all your types of surgery dislocations, right? You know, cause they need surgery. So there's so many different ones. And then through each one of them, You can go step by step. Would you be able to pin yourself? Oh, yes.
Sorry. [00:02:00] I just started talking. That wasn't even my lecture. I haven't even started yet. I was just chit chatting with you. Pause it. Focus.
So I wanted to Right? Where are we putting our focus? So I wanted to remind you, this is where it's going to be most, most important, right? Where your focus goes, your energy flows. So be very mindful right now. We have four calls left. We're a month and a half out from your exam. Some for some people, depending, it's two months, but as the time gets closer and closer, I can feel the emails come in.
I can, you know, hear the, the verbiage of, um, you know, the, you know, the, essentially the little cadence, the rise in anxiety, the self doubt [00:03:00] coming through. And I want you to, to manage where your focus goes because that's where your energy flows. So if you don't manage that energy, it can go either way. So your brain is very adept into, um, focusing on the lack, right?
The things that you don't yet have that you don't yet know because that's just very easy for your brain to do and the brain will always default down to doing the easiest doing the least. That's how your brain just works. Um, but you have ultimate Decision ultimate control, right on where your focus goes.
So be very mindful of what you're saying to yourself and be mindful of what you allow [00:04:00] people to say to you, but mindful of like the rooms that you're in. You can be in a room and you can have the slightest, you can have one person say the slightest thing to you and introduce that doubt and then you're.
You're dead in the water, right? Um, and it could be ever so slight. Kind of one of them underhanded, you know, Statements comments or whatever. Um, someone could be doing that to you. You could be doing it to yourself So manage where your focus goes because that's where your energy is going to go So if you're constantly your brain is also adept in finding solutions to the problem So it really comes down to you being able to ask the right questions if you find yourself asking yes, no questions Think about how you can change that question.
So it's not a yes or no Cause if it's a yes or no, your brain's automatically going to be. Nope. Nope. You can't do it. Nope. You don't know [00:05:00] enough. Nope. So you have to manage and ask yourself different questions so you can get better answers. Right. Um, so yeah, you don't, you know, you don't have to love everything.
It's not meant to be easy. Right. Um, you don't, you don't have to love it to be good. Like you don't, Some people don't love elbows elbows can be really challenging really tough in the treatment room I don't really care about the treatment room, right? You don't have to love it to be good at it You don't have to know everything perfectly to be able to trust yourself that you know What you could be doing in a perfect world.
Yes, we could do a lot of different things But for the focus of the exam, you just need to know enough You So that you can feel really, you know, good about your problem solving and decision making skills. You need to know, like, instead of trying to memorize [00:06:00] everything, what are some of the key components that you could know in order to help you critically think through the case at hand, the question at hand.
And then going back to, um, You know, how do I read the question in a way that this is an opportunity now to slow down your reading to slow down your thinking so that you can go faster, you know, going step by step of like, I'm reading the question. I'm looking at the answers. I'm reading the question again, so that you can rule in and rule out and make the best the best decision, right?
That's a practice. Right. So, um, if you focus that you focus on those things, you're going to like put your energy into that space. All right.
